This downloadable dataset makes the coverage math inspectable: the same 100-square-foot area is shown at several depths and for three common bag sizes.
What each row means
Each row uses an area of 100 square feet. Volume is calculated as area × depth in feet. Cubic yards divide cubic feet by 27. Whole bags round the calculated cubic feet up to the next complete bag for the listed bag size.

Reproduce the calculation
- Depth in feet = depth in inches ÷ 12.
- Volume in cubic feet = area in square feet × depth in feet.
- Volume in cubic yards = cubic feet ÷ 27.
- Whole bags = ceiling(cubic feet ÷ bag size in cubic feet).
