Project settings
Use the bag size printed on the product.
Bags are rounded up separately for each area.
Areas
Set shape, units, dimensions, and depth for each section.
Editable price inputs
Reference inputs are local examples, not national prices.
Blank by default. Public contracts, public extension guides, and supplier delivered-price listings were checked, but no comparable first-party set covered all three price fields.
Blank by default. Enter a local quote; one order fee is allocated by each area's volume.
Blank by default. No directly comparable first-party public installation rate per square foot was found.
Supported range
What you can enter
Combine rectangular and circular areas, mix imperial and metric dimensions, set a separate depth for every area, and add more sections when needed. No fixed project-size limit is published; very large inputs may be less practical in a browser.
Calculation rules
How the estimate is calculated
Volume equals surface area multiplied by depth. Bags equal each area's cubic feet divided by the selected bag size, rounded up. A single delivery fee is allocated to areas in proportion to their calculated volume.
- AreaRectangle = length × width. Circle = π × (diameter ÷ 2)².
- VolumeSurface area × depth, converted to cubic yards and cubic meters.
- BagsEach area's cubic feet ÷ selected bag size, rounded up by area.
- Installed subtotalMaterial by cubic yard + allocated delivery + labor by square foot.

Reference price sources
All three price inputs are blank by default. Public procurement and government contracts, public extension cost guides, and supplier delivered-price listings were checked. None provided a comparable first-party set that matched all three calculator fields without splitting or converting bundled prices.
| Item | Value | Source and date | Required unit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Material | Not found — left blank | Three source classes checked September 16, 2026. Supplier material and delivered prices were not used because a compatible labor price was still unavailable, which would leave a partial default estimate. | USD per cubic yard |
| Delivery | Not found — left blank | Three source classes checked September 16, 2026. Published delivery terms varied by distance, load size, or bundled installed volume and did not match one comparable flat order fee. | USD per order |
| Labor | Not found — left blank | Three source classes checked September 16, 2026. Government results bundled installation by cubic yard, extension results covered agricultural mulch by acre, and supplier lists did not state a comparable installation rate per square foot. | USD per square foot |
Common questions
Mulch installation cost FAQ
Why is delivery blank?
The reviewed source did not list a separate delivery charge. Leaving the field blank avoids presenting an unsupported number. Add the fee quoted by your supplier.
How is delivery divided among areas?
The calculator treats delivery as one order fee and assigns it in proportion to each area's mulch volume. The allocated amounts add back to the entered fee.
Can two areas use different depths or units?
Yes. Every area has its own shape, unit system, dimensions, and depth. Imperial and metric areas can appear in the same estimate.
Why are the price inputs blank by default?
Installation prices are local, and no verifiable first-party public source matched all three price fields, so the calculator does not prefill them.
