About CoverCalc Pro
CoverCalc Pro is an independent, browser-based planning tool maintained by Ying Liu for homeowners, gardeners, community growing teams, and small landscape crews. It connects an optional AI garden concept with real bed measurements, material estimates, local prices, an order-ready plan, and a completion record.
What CoverCalc Pro does
The calculator supports rectangles, circles, triangles, known areas, multiple sections, imperial and metric measurements, bag and bulk comparisons, optional material weight, and cost estimates based on prices you provide. The AI garden tool creates a visual concept from one garden-bed photo; measurements and purchase quantities remain separate user inputs.
How it works
Enter the dimensions and depth for each area. The calculations run in your browser, and the result explains the volume, whole-bag purchase quantity, and any optional ton or cost calculation. Use the result as a planning estimate and confirm product specifications before ordering.
A quantity you can check
For a measured 120 ft² bed, a chosen 2-inch depth, a 2 ft³ bag size, and no added planning allowance:
- Volume: 120 × (2 ÷ 12) = 20 ft³.
- Bulk-volume equivalent: 20 ÷ 27 = 0.741 yd³.
- Whole bags: 20 ÷ 2 = 10 bags.
The area × depth method and unit conversions follow the quantity method in Iowa State University Extension's mulch calculation guide. Whole-bag counts round up when a fraction remains; bulk orders may also round to a supplier minimum or increment entered by the user. This is a volume example, not a recommended depth or product choice.
How the site is checked
Published calculation examples are checked against the displayed formulas. Browser tests cover known quantities, invalid inputs, sharing, printing, mobile widths, project revisions, and the boundary between an AI concept and measured materials. Model names, provider access, and external references are dated because they can change.
