Measure the patio, match the quote

Paver calculator

Count pavers and calculate separate base and bedding-sand volumes from your measurements. Add package sizes and supplier quotes only when you want to compare purchases.

Free · no account · runs in your browser

01 Measure the paved area

Use a rectangle or enter an area you already measured.

02 Enter paver size and planned depths

Use the face dimensions of one paver and the depths in your plan.

Add package sizes and purchase quotes Optional

Open this when you have bag volumes, density or prices from the supplier. Closing it keeps your entered values and the calculated results.

03 Add your paver quote

Per-piece and per-area prices are alternative quotes, not a combined bill. Delivery remains separate.

04 Compare paver-base bags and bulk

Use packaging, density, minimums and prices from the same supplier quote.

Paver base

05 Compare bedding-sand bags and bulk

Enter the sand layer and purchase rules separately from the base.

06 Optional joint-sand bag

Coverage must come from the product label or quote.

Paver count = planned area ÷ one paver's face area, rounded up · material volume = planned area × layer depth · bulk orders use only the minimum and increment you enter

Transparent project math

How this paver calculator works

Enter a rectangle or a known area, the face dimensions of one paver, separate base and bedding depths, and the allowance you choose. The calculator converts the area and layer volumes, rounds paver and bag quantities up, and keeps bagged and bulk purchase routes separate for each material.

Use the dimensions in your plan

This page does not choose a paver-base depth or a bedding-sand depth. Enter the values from your project documents or supplier guidance; use zero for a layer that is not part of your plan.

Compare the same material quote

For each layer, enter the package volume and price or the bulk price, then add any stated minimum, order increment and delivery fee. The page does not substitute generic prices, densities or package sizes.

Keep the order rule visible

A supplier minimum can lift the order above the calculated need. An increment rounds the order from that minimum, or from zero when no minimum is entered. The estimate shows the adjusted quantity separately from the physical volume.

Base volume (cu yd) = area (sq ft) × base depth (in) ÷ 324 · Base volume (m³) = area (m²) × base depth (cm) ÷ 100 · 1 cu yd = 27 cu ft · 1 m³ = 1,000 liters

One page, one project workflow

Check one patio estimate by hand

Example inputs, not a recommended installation: a measured 10 ft × 10 ft rectangle, 12 in × 12 in pavers, a user-chosen 10% allowance, 4 in base and 1 in bedding sand. These dimensions do not account for joints or a laying pattern.

  1. Pavers: 100 sq ft measured × 1.10 = 110 sq ft planned. Each example paver has a 1 sq ft face, giving 110 pavers.
  2. Keep the layers separate: base = 110 × 4 ÷ 12 = about 36.67 cu ft (1.358 cu yd); bedding sand = 110 × 1 ÷ 12 = about 9.17 cu ft (0.340 cu yd).
  3. Bag route: if each selected product is labeled 0.5 cu ft per bag, round each layer independently: 74 base bags and 19 sand bags.
  4. Bulk route: an example base quote with a 1 cu yd minimum and 0.5 cu yd increment gives 1.5 cu yd; an example sand quote with a 0.5 cu yd minimum gives 0.5 cu yd. These are alternative orders to the bags, not extra material to add to them.

Package rounding can make the purchase larger than the planned volume; it does not change the measured area or layer depth. Replace every example size, depth, allowance and supplier rule with your own confirmed values.

Common questions

Paver calculator FAQ

How do I use a paver calculator?

Measure a rectangle or enter its known area, then enter one paver's face dimensions and your cut allowance. The calculator divides planned area by one paver's face area and rounds up.

How much paver base do I need?

Enter the base depth from your project plan. The calculator multiplies paved area by that depth, applies your allowance and converts the volume to cubic feet, cubic yards and cubic metres.

Does the paver base depth calculator recommend a depth?

No. Base requirements depend on the project and its specifications. Enter the depth provided by your project documents or supplier; no default depth is hidden in the result.

How many bags of paver base do I need?

Enter the volume printed on one bag. The calculator divides planned base volume by that bag volume and rounds up to a whole bag.

Can I compare paver-base bags and bulk gravel?

Yes. Enter a bag size and price, then the bulk price per cubic yard and any supplier minimum or order increment. Delivery or pickup remains a separate input for each route.

How do I calculate paver base sand?

Enter a separate bedding-sand depth and the package or bulk facts for that sand. The calculator reports sand volume and order quantities separately from the base layer.

Does the paver count include joint spacing or a laying pattern?

No. It uses one rectangular paver's entered face area and your chosen allowance. It does not model gaps, mixed-size patterns, edge cuts or an exact layout; check the quantity against your installation plan.

Is this a complete paver installation cost?

No. The page compares only the pavers, base, bedding sand, optional joint sand and delivery amounts you enter. Labor, tax, excavation, disposal and other unentered costs are not included; per-piece and per-area paver quotes are alternatives, not amounts to add together.

Do I need to log in or register?

No. This free paver calculator runs in your browser without login, registration or a usage limit.
