EXPANDABLE IVY SCREEN MEASUREMENTS

Expandable Ivy Screen Size Guide

An expandable crossed lattice changes width and height together. Measure the opening first, then compare it with complete width × height pairs from the product listing. Do not combine the widest value with a height shown for a different expansion state.

THE CENTRAL RULE

Keep each width and height together

Compact state

The screen is narrow and relatively tall. Use this pair to check storage space and the closed position.

Usual-use state

Some sellers give a middle working size. Treat it as its own pair rather than an average you can freely change.

Maximum state

The screen is widest and usually shorter. A listing’s maximum width does not guarantee the height you need.

Missing dimensions

If the listing gives only one width or omits the matching height, the information is incomplete for a reliable fit check.

MEASURE THE OPENING

Record four numbers before comparing products

Measurements to take at the real installation area
MeasurementWhere to measureWhy it matters
Opening widthBetween the actual support pointsDetermines whether one panel or permitted joined panels can cover the span.
Opening heightFrom the intended lower edge to the required upper edgeRules out expansion states that become too short.
ClearanceAround gates, handles, drains, doors and walking routesChecks whether the deployed and compact screen obstructs use.
Support areaThe existing wall, railing, posts or frame named in the instructionsShows whether the listed attachment method has a suitable permitted support.

A single photograph does not provide reliable scale. Take the measurements at the site and use one unit consistently.

WORKED EXAMPLE

Why the widest state may still fail

Suppose an opening is 180 × 100 cm. A listing shows a usual-use state of 150 × 100 cm and a maximum state of 300 × 70 cm.

One usual-use panel

The 100 cm height works, but the 150 cm width leaves 30 cm uncovered.

One maximum panel

The 300 cm width is enough, but the paired 70 cm height is 30 cm short.

Two usual-use panels

If the manufacturer explicitly permits joining, two panels cover 300 cm at the required 100 cm height.

No joining information

Do not assume two panels can be joined. Ask the seller or choose a listing with a documented method.

PANEL COUNT

Count panels only after a listed state passes the height check

For a usable listed state, divide the opening width by that state’s panel width and round up to a whole panel. For the example above, 180 ÷ 150 = 1.2, so the result is 2 panels when joining is permitted. The formula must not use the 300 cm maximum width together with the 100 cm usual-use height.

The calculator keeps these states separate and withholds a panel-count recommendation when the selected height fails or the product does not state that panels can be joined.
