Mulch Sale Bundle Calculator

A shelf offer may require whole groups of bags. Enter the exact quote and compare a group-only order with singles of the same product, if the store sells them.

Your checkout ticket Worked example, not a live price

20merchandise cost in your entered currency

Example: two complete groups cover nine needed bags for 20, with one extra bag. Replace every sample entry with your own project and current shelf terms.

2 groups + 0 single bags

9 bags needed / 1 extra bought

Illustrative arithmetic only. Check the exact product, eligibility, offer limit, tax and delivery before paying.

Copy the numbers from your project and shelf tag

Use the same product for the group and single-bag fields. If the loose bag differs in material, volume or suitability, leave its price blank and calculate separately. Do not enter old or opened bags as new purchases here.

Illustrated example: a nine-bag need costs 22 as one five-bag group plus four singles, or 20 as two complete groups with one extra bag.
Illustration only. The example is arithmetic, not a current retailer promotion; replace the sample ticket with your inputs.

Why the cheapest cart can include extra bags

First turn your measured project volume into whole bags using the volume printed on the exact product. If the sale only sells complete groups, round the bag requirement up to a whole group. When the same bag is also sold singly, compare the cost of zero groups, the groups near the requirement, and any stated promotion cap. A second group can cost less than four full-price singles even if it leaves one bag unused.

Required bags = round up (project cu ft ÷ printed cu ft per bag)
Cart cost = groups × quoted group price + same-product singles × quoted single price

Checkable example, not a live price: 17 cu ft at 2 cu ft per bag needs 9 whole bags. If a store quote is 5 bags for 10 currency units and matching singles are 3 each, one group plus four singles costs 22; two groups cost 20 and leave one unopened bag. The calculator picks the cheaper complete cart. If only one group is allowed, it reports the available mix or an unfillable order when singles are unavailable.

What this ticket cannot check

It does not fetch current prices or determine whether a promotion applies to the exact bag, store, membership, coupon, date, quantity or shipping address. It excludes tax, deposits, delivery, pickup and labor. If the store only permits complete bundles, leave single-bag price blank. A zero or insufficient group limit can make the order impossible under the entered terms; the page must say so instead of showing a partial “cheap” cart. The tool cannot judge product quality or whether different mulch types should be combined.

Iowa State University Extension's mulch guide supports the area/depth-to-volume and label-to-whole-bag arithmetic. The promotion calculation is explicit cart math, not an Extension retailer recommendation. Need to compare two ordinary per-bag shelf quotes without a group requirement? Use the bag choice calculator instead.

Before paying

Should I divide a group price by its bag count?

That gives a unit-price clue, but it does not tell you the cost of a whole order. Calculate the complete groups required, then compare any permitted same-product single bags and the extra bags purchased.

What if the sale limits how many groups I can buy?

Enter that maximum. If singles of the same product are available, the calculator includes enough of them to complete the project. If not, it reports that the entered offer cannot supply a complete order.

Does this include an active promotion?

No. Every price, bag size, group quantity and limit comes from you. Check the current retailer's exact terms before buying.
