Landscape fabric planning / Staple quantity
Landscape Fabric Staple Calculator
Enter your measured area and the fastening rate from your product instructions. Get whole-staple and optional package counts without assuming a universal spacing rule.

How the calculator counts staples
Area and product rates may use different units. The calculator converts the measured area to the rate's area unit, multiplies by your entered fastening rate, then rounds up to a whole staple.
Whole staples = round up(measured area × entered staples per area unit)Whole packages = round up(whole staples ÷ staples per package)Package surplus is the package total minus the whole-staple estimate. No separate waste, edge, overlap or installation allowance is added.
A rate example from one product
SRW's Pro Plus IV fabric instructions state 1.2 staples per square yard for that product. With 500 ft² entered, the calculator converts the area to 55.56 yd², calculates 66.67 staples before rounding, and returns 67 whole staples.
That rate belongs to the SRW Pro Plus IV instructions. It is not a default for other fabrics. Read the current instructions for the exact product you plan to use.
Keep the fabric takeoff separate
This page calculates fastener quantity from your area and an entered product rate. It does not plan fabric strip width, roll length, overlap, cuts or product suitability. Use the fabric roll cut planner for continuous-strip layouts and whole-roll estimates.
Staple calculator questions
Should I use the sample rate for every landscape fabric?
No. The sample rate comes from SRW's Pro Plus IV instructions only. Enter the rate for the exact fabric you plan to use. If its instructions do not give a rate, do not guess one.
Can I use different area units for the measurement and rate?
Yes. Choose the measured area unit and the area unit named by your product's fastening rate. The calculator converts between square feet, square yards and square meters before rounding up.
Why does the result round up to a whole staple?
A fractional staple cannot be purchased or counted as a whole fastener. The estimate rounds the calculated amount up to the next whole staple.
Does the package result include extra installation allowance?
No. Package count is rounded up only to the pack size you enter. The extra count is the difference between that package total and your whole-staple estimate. No separate waste or installation allowance is added.
