Illustrative entries only—not current supplier prices or a hauling recommendation. All amounts use one shared currency.
Project need: 30 cu yd. Both quotes cover that volume.
Result: delivery is 12 lower than pickup + haul (420 vs 432). The break-even travel budget is (420 − 270 − 120 − 6) ÷ 3 = 8 per trip. At 12 per trip, pickup + haul is 12 above the delivered total.
Pickup + haul = supplier pickup total + rental/equipment total + (pickup trips × travel cost per trip) + other pickup-only costs. Compare that result with the all-in delivery total. The break-even figure shows how much more travel cost each pickup trip could absorb before its total reaches the delivered quote.
Quotes can contain different amounts, but both must cover the project need. The worksheet shows the surplus rather than pretending the supplier will sell the same quantity at a scaled price. Use comparable material and quote terms, and include known taxes and supplier fees in the relevant total exactly once.
This is a money comparison only. It does not value your time, estimate fuel or taxes, infer material weight, choose a trailer, or approve a load. For a bagged option, compare your actual bag quote with the delivered bulk quote using the bulk vs bags cost calculator. For order quantity, start with the mulch calculator.
No. This page compares a bulk order delivered to your address with a bulk pickup quote plus your own haul costs. Use the bulk-versus-bags calculator to compare a bulk quote with whole bagged-product purchases.
Use the mulch load calculator with the current supplier weight for the material and your own remaining payload and usable load space. Bring that arithmetic trip count here. It is not a safe-load clearance.
They do not need to match exactly, but each quoted quantity must cover the project volume you enter. The worksheet shows the extra volume in each order and does not re-price or scale either quote.
No. Enter only costs you know from your rental and trip plan. The worksheet does not estimate fuel, travel time, labor, taxes or vehicle limits; include known costs in the supplier totals or other-haul field without counting them twice.
