Mulch Glue Coverage Calculator

Use your measured bed area and the exact coverage printed for your chosen product. Choose whether that rate is per coat or for the complete application before counting containers.

Measure first. Copy the label basis.

Your surface area

Enter the surface area the product instructions say to cover, not mulch volume. Need to measure multiple beds? Use the multi-bed worksheet first.

Coverage from your exact label

Enter the area covered by the selected label unit for one coat. The coat count comes from your exact product directions.

No brand rate or coat count is preselected as a recommendation. If the label does not make its coverage basis clear, check that exact product's current instructions before calculating.

Optional cost

The subtotal uses only the amount you enter. It does not add tax, delivery or labor.

Whole-container estimate

Illustrative sample only. Replace every sample number with your measured area and the exact product label.

Containers to cover the entered area6 containers
Coverage entered
120 sq ft × 2 coats = 240 sq ft-coats to cover.
Rounded order
6 containers at 40 sq ft per package for this basis
Area headroom from rounding
0 sq ft equivalent from rounding
Entered-price subtotal
Add a package price to estimate the entered-price subtotal.

Example numbers are arithmetic only, not a coverage claim or product recommendation. Actual use is governed by the exact product label and surface conditions.

A label coverage figure is identified as per coat or full application, then compared with measured bed area to round up whole containers.
Coverage basis → measured surface area → rounded containers. The diagram is an original worksheet illustration, not product packaging.

The label basis decides the multiplication

A coverage figure can describe one coat or the complete application. Those are different inputs. Selecting the complete-application option prevents the calculator from multiplying an already-complete coverage figure by the coat count a second time.

When the label gives coverage per US gallon or litre, select that rate unit and enter the amount in one container. The tool scales the rate to your package before rounding. For example, a hypothetical label that covers 60 sq ft per gallon per coat, a 4-gallon container and two coats represents 240 sq ft per container per coat; a 180 sq ft bed needs two such containers by the entered math. Those values are invented for the arithmetic example and do not describe a product.

Per-coat label rate: containers = round up (measured area × stated coats ÷ label coverage per container for one coat)
Complete-application label rate: containers = round up (measured area ÷ label coverage per container for the full application)
Rate per gallon or litre: coverage per container = label coverage per volume unit × volume in one container

Whole-container rounding can leave some label-equivalent area. That is arithmetic headroom, not a promise about actual adhesion, waste or remaining liquid.

Why there is no generic coverage rate

Use the current directions for the exact product and surface. For example, Liquid Rubber's Mulch Binder product information distinguishes its final coverage figure from a separate amount applied per coat. EcoLock HD's product calculator uses its own material-specific coverage table. These are product-specific examples, not rates to transfer to another container.

This worksheet starts with your numbers and does not decide whether a binder fits your mulch, dilute it, set the number of coats or provide application and safety instructions. Read and follow the exact manufacturer's current label.

Mulch glue coverage questions

Does the label's coverage include every coat?

Check the exact product directions. Select “one coat” only when the printed rate is per coat and enter the specified coat count. Select “complete application” when the coverage figure already includes the full labeled process; the calculator does not multiply it again.

What if my rate is per gallon but I am buying a larger jug?

Choose the matching gallon or litre basis and enter the volume in one container. The calculator multiplies the coverage rate by that container size before rounding the required container count.

Does this calculator choose a product's coverage rate or coat count?

No. Enter the coverage and number of coats for your exact product from its current label or manufacturer instructions. There is no generic default rate.

Does the result tell me whether a mulch binder is right for my bed?

No. It converts your measured area and entered coverage basis into whole containers only. It does not assess product compatibility, surface condition, dilution, application method, drying time, plant safety or weather; follow the exact product instructions.

Can I use mulch volume as the glue coverage area?

No. Enter the surface area the product is intended to cover, such as the bed's square footage, and the product's stated coverage rate. Mulch volume and liquid coverage are different measurements.
