Mulch Order by Zone
Different products in one yard? Assign each measured zone to its intended product and keep package orders separate.
Your product orders
Edit measurementsName a product, enter its bag label, then assign your measured zones.
Net area × added depth. No extra allowance. Different products do not share surplus.
Product labels
One group is one product and package label. All sizes and prices come from you.
Measured zones
Use the net footprint that will receive mulch and enter only the added depth. For separate layers over the same bed, repeat that measured footprint once per product and enter each product's own depth.
Need a footprint? Use the multi-bed guide and cutout worksheet. If existing depth varies by bed, first use the measured refresh worksheet to find each bed's added depth. For different shapes, use the main calculator.
Optional add-on item
For one other item in this purchase: enter its exact product and package size, the whole-unit quantity already verified from its label or maker, and same-size units on hand. This line only subtracts inventory and applies your optional unit price. It does not calculate coverage, coats, dilution or application guidance. Leave every field blank to skip it; enter 0 when you have none on hand.
Zone-to-product ledger
Complete the inputs to see where each product quantity comes from.
One rounding step per product
For each zone, net area × added depth gives geometric volume. Square feet with inches use area × depth ÷ 12 for cubic feet. Square metres with centimetres use area × depth ÷ 100 for cubic metres. Assign every zone to the product you actually intend to use; this tool cannot choose it for you.
Within each explicitly shared product group, add unrounded zone volumes. Whole bags = that combined volume ÷ the label volume, rounded up once. Label-capacity surplus = whole bags × label volume − combined zone volume. Surplus is an arithmetic package remainder, not a guarantee about settling, coverage or another product's suitability.
The inputs accept ft² or m², inches or centimetres, and bag labels in cubic feet, litres or cubic metres. NIST Handbook 44 (2026), Appendix C provides the unit conversions: 1 ft = 0.3048 m, 12 in = 1 ft, and 1,000 L = 1 m³. A zero added depth must be entered explicitly. Blank measurements and prices are not treated as zero.
Measurements and names stay in this page until it is closed or reloaded. Copy the ticket if you want to retain it. The worksheet does not send your entries to a service, save them in browser storage, check supplier availability or produce a supplier quote. Mulch bag groups do not subtract on-hand stock. The optional add-on subtracts only your entered count for the same exact product and package size; its verified quantity is never calculated by this worksheet.
Buying a mulch binder too? Use the mulch glue coverage calculator to turn the exact package rate and coat basis into whole containers. This order worksheet keeps any other supply quantity manual.
Separate-order questions
Should I round each zone to bags before adding it?
Not for one shared product order. Combine that product's unrounded zone volumes first, divide by its bag-label volume, and round up once. Keep different products and separately allocated orders in different product groups.
Can I calculate separate layers over the same bed?
Yes. Enter the same measured footprint once for each material layer, assign each row to its own product group, and enter that layer's added depth. For example, 120 ft² at a user-entered 1 in is 10 ft³; 2 in over that same area is 20 ft³. The worksheet keeps each product quantity and bag rounding separate. It does not choose materials or recommend depths.
Can surplus from one product cover another product's zone?
This worksheet does not transfer surplus between product groups. Equal bag volumes or matching names do not establish product suitability or equivalence. Only combine zones when you explicitly intend them to share the same product order.
Are prices, extra allowance or delivery included?
No extra allowance is applied. Optional prices produce only the entered product or add-on subtotal in your entered currency. Blank prices stay unknown, and delivery, tax, labor and supplier availability are not included.
Does the optional add-on line calculate how much product to use?
No. Enter the whole-unit quantity already verified for the exact product and package size, then enter the same-size units on hand. The worksheet subtracts those units and applies an optional entered price; it does not calculate coverage, coats, dilution or application guidance.
